The ruins of Coventry Cathedral<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

childhood memories of times gone by
\nsitting outside the ruins
\ngazing in
\nlooking at the destruction
\nand then the phoenix rising
\nthe coloured glass the broken stones
\nthe tower still standing like
\nsome kind of miracle growth<\/p>\n

how did that happen?<\/p>\n

we learnt more that day than i ever realised
\nsitting on the grass with our packed lunches
\nand someone was laughing
\nbut i couldn’t see who it was
\nlost in some reverie about lady godiva
\nburning in the courtyard<\/p>\n

the mist descending
\ncovering the darkness
\nno light in this history of gloom
\nthe droning engines
\nand bombs dropping<\/p>\n

no escape now
\nno more meaning
\nin this world of flame and heartbreak
\nand unreasoning death<\/p>\n

let me rise in the phoenix light
\nuntil there is no tomorrow
\nand nothing left to cry about
\nand then there will be peace
\nthen i will be able to live again<\/p>\n
